Dr. S. Edward Sulkin (1908–1972) was a distinguished virologist and Chair of Microbiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center from 1945 to 1972. Renowned for establishing bats as a principal reservoir for the rabies virus, his research transformed the understanding of zoonotic disease.

The S.E. Sulkin Award recognizes outstanding Oral Presentation of Graduate Student research in Medical Microbiology.
